So, you’ve walked down the aisle, got teary eyed while reciting your vows, enjoyed a few delicious cocktails, laughed your face off during speeches from your loved ones, and just finished the most exquisite 3-course dinner. With bellies and hearts full - it’s finally time to throw the best darn dance party ever! But how do you encourage guests to get out of their seats and start busting a move? We chatted with some of our favorite DJ’s and Wedding Band Leaders in NYC to hear all about their surefire songs to get the party started!

Aaron, the bandleader of UNLTD! band from Cafe Wha Entertainment loves to play “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk The Moon. He says, “It’s a great contemporary song for an early dance set that usually accomplishes exactly what the title says!”

DJ June says “my favorite way to kick off a reception is to do a high energy introduction!” She throws on a great remix of “We Found Love” by Rhianna, into a remix of “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston into “ Levels” by Avicii. “We even did the Horah to ‘We Found Love’ once. The crowd was so hyped after that we just danced and sang the other tracks. The groom gave me a high five after and said ‘Now that’s how you start a party!’”

Dan, owner of The Hook Club Band is all about “Signed Sealed Delivered” by Stevie Wonder. “We love this timeless wedding classic because it's the perfect song to kick into after the first dance. The introduction to the song leads everyone onto the dance floor and gets the crowd dancing, and we can seamlessly transition into more feel-good music for the first dance set. We've been starting weddings with Signed Sealed Delivered for 5 years and it never lets us down!”

DJ Cole with Jay McElfresh loves to start a dance set with "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone. “People of all ages know it, people love it, and people dance to it!”

And of course… you are wondering, “What is The Get Together Events Co’s favorite song to get the party start??” WELL. We will live and die on “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire. We believe it is the BEST party starter. Moms love it. Grandmas love it. Kids love it. It’s the great unifier. Nothing gets the crowd moving and grooving quite like this classic!
