A Secret Weapon for a Safe Covid Wedding

A Secret Weapon for a Safe Covid Wedding

On July 4th, Connie Tsai and Eric Emery got married after having to postpone their nuptials from earlier this year. While getting married during a pandemic is not ideal, they were ready to start their life and determined to get married- safely. And they had a secret weapon for a safe Covid wedding…

Through our month-of process together Connie, Eric and I brainstormed the various ways to keep guests safe:

  • The guest list was paired down to keep within county rules and there was no pressure for guests to attend.

  • Signage was present as guests arrived to both the ceremony and reception advising to wash hands and keep a distance.

  • Guests were spread out significantly for the outdoor wedding.

  • For the reception, guests sat with other folks they came with and the tables were spread apart.

  • Hand sanitizer was present EVERYWHERE.

  • All the cups were disposable, one use cups, and served by the bartender

  • The food service style was changed from a buffet to a plated meal for all guests.

  • The silverware was pre-rolled (by a gloved and masked wedding coordinator- me!) so there was no chance of exposure pre-use.

  • All vendors were masked.

  • We taped off the floor for a barrier between the guests and the band so guests kept their distance.

  • The photobooth had one-time-use only stick props.

  • The guest book had wipes next to the pens to sanitize them before and after use.

  • Cornhole bags were in plastic bags, and gloves were available for guests that wanted to play.

  • All guests were provided an N-95 mask upon arrival.

WHAT!?
YES.
You read that correctly.
All guests were provided the coveted and hard to come by N-95 mask.

How was this possible? Well, the creator of the N-95 mask was the Father of the Bride, Peter Tsai. As featured in CNN and The Washington Post, Mr. Tsai’s invention has saved BILLIONS (with a B) of lives. He has come out of retirement to fight the N-95 shortage and find ways to re-sterilize the masks to allow for more than one time use.

Does that mean that we were all immune? No. Does that mean that we could hug and touch and get close to each other? No. But I sure as heck felt a lot safer. Mr. Tsai wore his mask the whole time, kept his distance and limited his dancing to only the father/daughter dance. And if that’s what the inventor of the safest mask in the world does, that’s what I’m going to do too.

I am so grateful to Mr. Tsai for his contributions to his daughter’s wedding, and the world! He’s a superhero! And as of today, all wedding guests are healthy and safe.

Congrats to Eric and Connie!!

Be safe, practice social distancing, and wear a f’**ing mask y’all.
